Bradbury's eyes dart to Yuri, but he offers the Russian no response. The ork doesn't feel much like this is the time for quipping, as he can still feel the impact which snapped the troll ganger's head all but cleanly off radiating through his arm from the elbow. The room is splattered with blood and littered now bodies in addition to the semi-discarded refuse of the savage 'Weeners. Bradbury reflects for a brief moment on the empty bottles scattered about the floor, and how those dead soldiers are now joined by dead gangers.

Gun fire from downstairs.

The ork's head snaps back in the direction of the hallway, and he finds himself momentarily hesitant. The fool's errand of petulantly dividing the team's force irked him in a very visceral way, and he has half a mind to leave the decrepit man to his own fate. He may not need help, or he may. There's another down there, though, and he's likely to have stayed behind simply so Aremys didn't foolishly maroon himself at the mouth of the battle alone. Bradbury appreciates that kind of loyalty and honor, and thinks it's something worth lending a hand to should that hand be needed.

This consideration takes place in a barely perceptible moment, and upon its conclusion the ork begins a sprint downstairs to try to keep all of the bloodshed on the right side of the playing field.

The second ganger in line--oblivious to the embers burning his leathers--shoulders past his dying comrade and levels his Ruger Superwarhawk at Little-Hawk, taking a moment to aim and then firing off a round with a deafening retort.
Ganger 6 - Ranged Combat Test

[REA (5) + INT (4) + Good Cover (4) = 4]
2 6 2 6 6 3 3 2 2 5 4 2 2
The heavy plastic lid of the crate snaps off of its hinges, flying past Little-Hawk's head. He notices with curious detachment the baseball sized exit hole in the thick material.

The last Halloweener through the door hefts up the corpse of his fellow gang member and edges an Ares Predator around the side of the corpse, snapping off two shots at Aremys.

Anon doesn't have time to process the carnage in front of him. And perhaps it's better if he doesn't. The things these people are capable of. I'm capable of...

Bradbury's sudden dash out of the room is enough for Anon to stuff such thoughts into the back of his mind and focus on nothing but movement. His boots are already thumping down the hall in time to the gunfire.

A sharp spike of rage pierces Tianwe's deliberate calm as a swarm of plastic shards erupt from the crate, peppering his cheek with fiery pain. A feral snarl sneaks through gritted teeth as blood begins to well from the tiny cuts. Swinging the muzzle of his pistol into the open, he unleashes another pair of rounds at the cranked-up thug who just tried to brain him.

Obsidian fangs still speckled with blood and flesh, the beast spirit squares its haunches and lunges for the Halloweener winged by Little Hawk's shot.

The time for calm aiming had come and gone. Aremys had been shot at before, it is generally a landmark experience, but not frequently enough to let it pass with a grin.

Damn, but that shot could have hit him!

The cold sweat dripping down into his eyes and claming his palms are about the worst possible help in aiming a pistol anyway. Eyes half closed, Aremys isn't really conscious of where his pistol is pointed, only the decompression of the trigger and trying not to drop the damn thing as it bucks in his grip. (Two bursts at whatever ganger is still standing)

Aremys' first burst proves true; riddling the injured ganger with exploding slugs and dropping him--lifeless--to the floor.

Tianwe peers through the tiny gaps in the crates that separate him from the corpse-toting ganger and curses into the racket of combat. Popping out of cover once more, Tianwe attempts to slip a well-placed round beyond the thug's rather macabre notion of cover.

The ganger pinned underneath his meat-shield shoves the corpse off roughly and slips in a pool of his own blood. He clutches at his stomach and looks up--right into the slavering fangs of the spirit!
Spirit - Unarmed Combat Test
[Unarmed Combat (3) + AGI (3) = 3]
5 5 3 5 3 4

In his weakened state, the ganger is not strong to pry the pitch black jaws from his face. After a moment of struggle, his arms go limp and the spirit severs the tendons in his neck with its powerful jaws.

((Think I got skipped but no big deal))

Breathing deeply to slow his heart rate, Aremys ejects he magazine from his pistol, slipping the empty one into his pocket and replacing it with a full one. His ears ringing from the cacophony of gunfire, the cripple shuffles out from around his bullet riddled crate and shuffles cautiously up to the dead gangers, giving the demon dog still ravaging one of the corpses wide berth. With a practiced eye he gives the corpses a quick search ((you know what I'm looking for)) and gives a quick peak out the door to see if their little showdown has captured any bystander attention.

Yuri hops the steps two at a time and hurries over to the crates. Eyeing the perforated lid and bullet holes, he releases an impressive slew of Russian curses. The gangster kneels down and carefully prods the holes, massaging the contents as one would inspect a patient. He breathes a heavy sigh of relief and flashes a sardonic grin at the team.

"слава богу! The product is intact."

Anon bursts into the room with his pistol drawn, coming to a sudden stop when he sees the pile of bodies and the rest of the team standing around. With a slight grin at the awkward situation, he stuffs the revolver back into the folds of his coat while Yuri heads over to inspect the crates.

"Téch, I see you have handled problem," he says, eying the back of Yuri's head as the Russian prods the crates. "Now, what to do about new friend here, and old employers?"

Wary, his hand doesn't stray far from where he stashed his pistol.

Aremys gives Anon an intrigued look as he finished his check of the corpses. His eyes them roam to the Russian and his grip tightening on his pistol unconsciously, a small grin appearing.

In a small voice that doesn't carry past the elf, "THE product? I think it is OUR product. As I recall, our employer said the warehouse was empty, so anything in here belongs to us! If this Russian wants to buy it from us, I'm willing to entertain offers. Otherwise, he can join these fellows on the ground. What he says about our employers looking to double cross us might be true, but that doesn't change the situation. They found us and can find us again if we don't resolve it. Some sort of insurance plan should anything happen to us might work. Our decker friend can probably set that up."

Yuri narrows his eyes at Aremys, but he doesn't flinch or show emotion. "As you are new to this game, I will chalk that up to exuberance. This product is mine; there is history I cannot go into now. Rest assured you will be paid for your efforts in helping me to reclaim it, but the level of heat that attempting to fence this would bring down on you would be like an atomic bomb."

Anon's eyes shift uneasily from side to side. The cracks in his language fade somewhat as he works to put the Russian at ease while still satisfying his bloodthirsty teammate. "Perhaps my... friend is too hasty. We have helped your people out, no? For that, as you say, payment would be expecting in this kind of business. We have also helped you out personally, after your employers left you alone against six men to recover boxes. I am thinking your people would not be objecting to us extracting payment from original Johnson as bonus? And what kind of payment are your people willing to give for our services?"

Tianwe looks up from initiating a reboot of his deck, the tension in the room seeping into his muscles. The utter quiet of the metaverse and the unfamiliar absence of AROs brings a slight feeling of vertigo which further sets him on edge. He busies himself with reloading his firearm.

"Is top floor clear? Where is Bonebreaker? It was said he was upstairs; I heard over comm." He glares reproachfully at the runners arrayed around the room. "Argument among us can be saved until we are sure." Little-Hawk turns his attention to his panting "comrades", however temporary, around the base of the stairwell. "Well?"

"Your friend is right. This is not the time nor the place to discuss these matters. We must safely escaping our number one priority."

A beam of head light sweeps across the doorway, distorted by the rain.

Yuri's expression darkens. "Expecting company?"

Bradbury's attention turns from Aremys's pompousness to the approaching danger. "Must be the man of the hour..." he grumbles, and rushes into position immediately to the left of the doorjamb. The ork wants to be close when Bonebreaker steps through the door.

(( I think we're at one of those points where everyone is waiting for things to move forward ))

Anon glances at the bodies on the ground, and dashes toward them. "Get the rest of them out of sight," he hisses, dragging one of the bodies away from immediate view of the doorway.

He pauses for a moment and studies the corpses. He imagines them alive and well, huddled in the middle of the room over the bullet ridden corpse of a Grimrazor, and draws his magic together to make it so.

(( Trid Phantasm F3 ))

Illusion in place, he joins Bradbury by the door, pistol drawn and gives the team a nod. He dredges up what memory he can of the distant voice of the ganger that he had overheard speaking with Loki. Making his best facsimile of it, he shouts out, "Hey get in here! The 'razors tried to gank our drek while we were out chasing ghosts!"

Bradbury's eyes narrow and his respiration halts. He simultaneously panics and grows very stony in his resolve. This was, after all, a known risk getting into this drek. The amnesiac ork doesn't have enough experience with Lonestar to be able to feel out the validity of the claim, so he defers inherently to the most seasoned dirtbag of the group. His attention darting to Yuri, his facial expression begs for the gangster's reaction. His mind racing, he whispers across the space separating them, "Is this city property?"

"I am wondering same thing."

Sensing that the bond is still strong with the summoned beast, he focuses his mind to it.

The beast spirit shimmers and vanishes as it phases into the astral plane. It stalks through the doorway and surveys the area just outside before telepathically relaying its findings to Anon. This being it's final task, the beast spirit dissipates to join countless others in the nether.

Anon grimaces, and inhales sharply through his teeth.

"They're Lonestar, two of them with one car, and they don't look friendly." he says. "Nothing about this job was on level."

Anon draws another breath and lets it out slowly. There are far too many gambles being made today, and this probably won't be the last.

He pushes the door mostly closed with his toe, blocking the view of the inside from the officers. The phantasm gangers all take up positions behind shelves and crates, guns pointed toward the door. He slips his voice back into the velvet tires on gravel sound of the ganger.

(( Adept Power: Voice Control ))

"Don't come any closer, or we start dropping hostages!"

He turns to Yuri.

"Might buy us time. Now we need way out back."

Aremys looks towards the window he entered from on the other side of the building.

"We can probably get out through the window I came in over there - but I don't think we're getting these crates through it as well. Why not just make a break for it before backup arrives? Blast them and then use the gangers bikes for an escape?"

Aremys reaches down to one of the corpses he searched and rummages around for bike keys.

A shout comes back from one of the beat cops, "Give it up, chummer! We've got backup en route. You'll be surrounded in a minute. Come out nice and easy and maybe we won't bash all of your teeth in."

Yuri curses quietly in Russian and scans the room with furtive eyes. His gaze rests longingly on the stack of drug-bearing crates. An exasperated sigh escapes him and he slinks over to Anon.

"This is not going to end well. As much as it pains me to say, I think the ork is right and we have to abandon the product. If we survive this, I'll need help retrieving it. From the look of it, you'll be needing a new employer anyway."

Anon flashes Yuri a sardonic but worried grin.

"Yes, I am realizing we cannot haul crates on top of our heads while running from police. We need to be making the tracks. This is all fine. I am not so sure about killing or revealing our faces to police. Perhaps it is different here, but where I come from, dead police bring many more police. The kind of police that don't stop hunting; Burn everything in their path. This is not thing I want to be worrying about."

His hand adjusts and tightens on the grip of his revolver.

"So, while they have doubt, then window it is."

With his hands busily checking over his weapon, Loki's eyes shift between the two men, slide toward the voices behind the door, and flick back to his Smartgun as his refreshed clip slams home with a click. A last nervous jerk and the the reciever spring returns, seating a round within the guns multi-function chamber.

"Helluva job those drek bags set us up with. If the decision's made, let's scram...this is no place to die."

Loki turns and walks purposefully toward the dark window. Muttering slightly under his breath his eyes scan the industrial ceiling and shadowed corners accusingly.

Can't argue with sense, Tianwe thinks grimly as he slinks to the open window on the side of the warehouse, sparing a glance over his shoulder at the stacked crates surrounded by the animated doppelgangers of the corpses on the floor. The juxtaposition is fragging eerie, and serves to quicken his pace a step or two... as if he needed another reason for haste.
