Tyros, the drones and the Rover all seem to converge upon the scene at once.

The main strip cuts a swath in between two identical structures, both home to a number of shops and businesses. The illusion of perfection is quickly shattered as the team gains eyes on the town square. Plexiglass windows are riddled with bullet-holes, shattered, in some cases. Phosphorus graffiti decorates nearly every available surface--at such a scale that the cleaning drones are unable to cope with.

The middle of the street is occupied by two large troll gangers, both suited up in heavily abused ballistic armor. Both gangers sport the same mohawk hairstyle and matching tattoos along their collarbones. One of the trolls is dragging a human female by her hair across the street while the other follows closely behind, aiming lazy kicks at her struggling form.

Doc rocks the wheel hard to starboard and triggers the emergency brake, forcing the Rover sideways into a sliding stop.

A quizzical look is exchanged between the gang members. The troll that was dragging the woman plucks her off the ground by the throat and presses her close to his body, shifting the Enfield shotgun slung around his torso so that the barrel is pressed into her cheek.

Max ejects himself from the rover in a hurried, fluid motion and comes to a stance behind the open passenger side door-- partially covered from return fire. Initiating what will likely be a stand-off, the elf raises Marlowe on the ganger holding the woman and roars commandingly,

"LET HER GO, TROG, OR YOU'LL FIND YOURSELF SMEARED ALL ACROSS THIS DREKHOLE! I'M NOT SAYING IT AGAIN!"

(( Going for the intimidation roll here, to which I receive a +1 from my weapon's custom look. ))

From the relative saftey of the rover, Val scans for and analyzes the PAN of the trog with the hostage, checking for his Access ID and for whether a smartlink is present in the PAN.

"LET HER GO!"

Doc slaps the release to the Lynx just as the rover skids to a stop. It ejects from the rear of the vehicle, and lands thud and a squeaking of its tires. It waits for someone to open fire.

Adams jumps out of the driver's seat and moves to the front of the car, resting the battle rifle over the hood, and drawing a bead on ganger with the hostage.

Val slips into AR--the soft micro suede contours of the Rover's interior wiggle and break apart as his vision transitions to an augmented panorama of the local matrix.

He quickly locates the respective PANs of the troll gangers. Both appear to be based on out-dated cyberware platforms and should be rudimentary to crack.

Val grins mischieviously and hurls a brute force hack at the hostage-taker's master node. Once inside, he scans for a full list of peripheral devices, though his main interest is in cyberware and smartlinks.

"Frag this."

Exhaling gently, the elf fires on the troll holding the woman hostage.

Tyros hovers a few meters above the two trolls. Knowing Max, it isn't long before the elf opens fire. With a quick gesture (centering) Tyros wastes no time on subtlety and bores into the Troll without the hostage's head (mind probe, f4, looking for numbers of the gang, it's leader, their whereabouts, important hostages, and plan for the city - basically everything and anything to do with the gang's activities in Cloud 9).

Doc lets the rifle fall on the hood of the rover, as he reaches back and brings up the Colt Cobra. (( Ready weapon ))

The crosshairs of the smartgun system settle on the hostage-taker, and the gun spits out a trio of stick-n-shock darts.

A primal growl of frustration escapes Val's throat as he pounds a fist against the door of the rover. Val opens the door and uses it as cover, raising his FN HAR and sweeping the horizon. He scans the surroundings and attempts to cover Doc as he aids the wounded elf. His eyes find the ex-hostage kneeling on the pavement, whimpering and gibbering with fear. He curses softly, then approaches her and holds out a hand.

"Listen, lady, we're here to help. If you want to get out of this alive, you need to come with us for a while. We need to help each other. Come take a seat in the rover. We won't hurt you; you can trust us. We've got some questions."

Val makes another sweeping scan of their surroundings.

<"This is not fragging good, 'manos. We need to move. Like now.">

Tyros flies silently above the gangers. He saw Max go down, but the hit did not look mortal and Doc should be able to handle it. Besides, the elf said never to touch him so his healing magic was unwanted. The sight of Max hit left his feelings strangely mixed as on the one hand, given the animosity and outright racism the elf displays towards him, what should he care if the elf gets shot up, but he doesn't like seeing any of his running compatriots get hurt. They are his teammates after all, his battle brothers. They have been through things that tie a group together like no other human (or metahuman) experience. Tyros feels very protective of his companions and doesn't like the conflicting feelings created by his standoff with Max.

His revery takes only a moment, and know his attention turns fully back towards the two trolls below him. Tyros almost feels a kinship with them just because of Max's overt and unrestrained hatred of his kind. But they are the enemy and they can't be allowed to escape.

Tyros points silently at the least injured ganger and wades into his mind (control thoughts, f3).

Grinning with more than a little malevolence, Tyros orders his ganger to to fall a step behind the other and when his companion isn't looking, fire two, point blank, shotgun rounds into the back of his head.

The ganger named Griff was having one hell of a day. Cloud Nine was the perfect score--a town where the local population was basically allergic to resistance. It was a ganger's dream. Then the Rover full of jacked-up Shadowrunners had shown up. A hostage was taken. Shots were fired. It wasn't anything the ganger hadn't experienced before, but talk about a buzzkill.

Griff limps towards Town Hall. His wounds are pretty bad, but not life threatening. The adrenaline pump is still ticking away, dumping dopamine into his brain like a narcotic Niagra falls. Just a little bit farther.

And then there's the sound of a Browning High-Power being cocked. Are the runners back? They're in no condition to fight.

Griff turns around to see his buddy, Bax, pointing a revolver at him. Bax is pale, perspiring. His eyes are looking someplace else, someplace past him.

"Bax, chummer, stop fooling around."

Bax's finger slips through the trigger guard.

"Hey, if this is about Veronica, I didn't know you guys were still an item. Honest."

The apology in Bax's eyes is the last thing that Griff sees.

A single shot rings out, echoing clearly to the team in and around the rover.

((Yeah, so, totally didnt realize this thread started two days ago......yeah...))

Sinjin's boot grinds softly against the dusty ground, crushing the last glowing ember of a half smoked cigarette beneath it as he steps out from behind the rover. Something about this place had killed his desire to finish it. Perhaps it was simply an unconscious need to spoil the too-perfect landscape with his discarded butt. The manufactured serenity was making his skin crawl. Then again, perhaps it had been the sight of a bloody hand print, testament to a foulness that preceded them into this garden of Eden. Or maybe it was just the half naked and bruised girl before him they had -only just- managed to arrive in time to save. A stranger that nearly cost them the elf's life.

Replacing his dark thoughts with a sly grin, Sinjin turns to his teammates.

"Now, Val, I dunno how it works in those VR clubs, but out here in the real world its considered common courtesy to ask a girls name before you try to take her home with you..." he says, eyes twinkling.

Holding the door to the rover open, Sinjin gestures Val and the girl onward.

"Alright lass, in ya go. Nice and safe in there."

Val rolls his eyes at Sinjin and hides a smirk from the mewling woman. That ork's as bad as the elf. Val's countenance becomes more serious as he sits next to the woman and turns toward her.

"We were hired to help clean this mess up, get these gangers out of Cloud 9. Heckerman--you know him I presume--told us that Cloud 9 was having a bit of a gang problem, but we didn't expect anything like this. We need to find him. Do you know where he is? Do you have an idea of how many gangers there are in this place? Where they might be basing their operations from? What, if anything other than chaos, they want?"

"Heckerman... worst mistake we ever made."

The girl sighs and pulls her knees to her chest.

"About 10 years ago, Cloud Nine filed for independent state-hood through an obscure legal loop-hole. It was granted, but the legislation was changed shortly after. Lone Star immediately realized their contract was null and pulled all support. Once people realized that traditional laws were un-enforceable, the entire community kind of went crazy. Crime rates went up dramatically. In an effort to stop it, Heckerman hired a surgeon to outfit us with these... sick-chips. They detect violent intent and respond accordingly. It worked. Oh, did it work. For about nine months, there wasn't a single violent crime in Cloud Nine. Then, the Scorpions showed up. They quickly figured out that the very thing keeping Cloud Nine perfect was their ticket to unlimited malfeasance. Now--thanks to Heckerman--we're unable to defend ourselves and nobody wants to help us, lest they end up on the wrong side of a human rights tribunal."

"There you go, bullet-catcher, good as new. Now let's get over to this town hall, and see what's going on."

He repacks his things, and hops back into the rover.
